New Direction in Commercial Advertising

new direction of advertisingA month before the end of 2011 AdWeek released their top picks for best commercials of the year. As every year we can get our fill of talking animals, cute babies, celebrity endorsers and absurd situations. What does stand out in this list though is that two of the slots were taken by ads that promote change in habits and behavior. Surprisingly enough these changes were not promoted by non-profit organizations, and the approach was quite a fit even though the companies are in two completely different industries, used two completely different approaches in terms of design and execution . The appeal of those two commercials is that they do not promote a product, they promote a different lifestyle and the way the company’s product fits into it. So, without any further ado, the number 2 and the number 9 best commercials of 2011, a new direction in commercial advertising:
